Night School

Adults attend night school 5 nights a week. This collective group is made up of community members who previously didn’t have the opportunity to receive an education. We are honored to introduce you to three of our night school students.

Evelyn
4th GRADE, AGE 44
NIGHT SCHOOL

Evelyn was forced to quit elementary school as a child because her parents could not afford the school fees. Later, the civil wars further decreased her chances for an education. With the support of her family and friends, Evelyn started attending night school with the goal of obtaining her high school diploma. “I now understand the importance of education and how it makes you strong as a person.”

“I grew up in the interior of Liberia with my grandmother. My mother went to the city to work. When I was 16 years old, she sent for me. She realized I needed to go to school. Since I was born it was my first year in school and I am so excited to be in school and I know I can achieve my dream of becoming a medical doctor in the future.”

ALIEU
3RD GRADE, AGE 36
NIGHT SCHOOL

“I started my primary school late because I was not in the city. I lived in the bush making farm. My family never had the finances to send me to school at a younger age. Our income source was farming only and we only had one meal time each day. In 2016, I was able to leave the bush and come to town through the help of a friend who brought me to work as a carboy on a truck and encouraged me to go to school saying that someday I could own a car to be the driver. That is how I started school in 2017 at Hope International School. I am in the 3rd grade but am trying my best to achieve greater things."
