We were so excited to receive these photos of some of our Cooking Up Hope culinary vocational students having a bit of fun. The instructors gave them a pizza making challenge and it looks as though they were doing it, in full Liberian-style, cooked to perfection over coals. Kalou, our school photographer, shared these photos with us.
It reminded me of another time in Liberia, a few years back with Kalou. He was then a recent graduate of Hope International and we got an opportunity to take him for his first taste of pizza.
Here is what I shared with you then…
“I will never forget taking Kalou to lunch. Kalou is 19 years old and a Hope International graduate. He is also the school photographer. We got a pizza (definitely not common in Liberia, so a very special treat for all) and watched as he had his first bite of pizza ever. I will never forget the smile on his face. We sent the leftovers home with him and the next day I asked him if he had finished the pizza and him saying, ‘No, I took it to my older sister because she has never had pizza either.” I will never forget thinking, ‘be more like him.’”
Cheers to pizza and those learning to make it. Cheers to those who save the very best things and experiences to share with others. Cheers to those who generously share in so many ways.
Cheers,
Jackie Frazier
