John Ahenkorah, Hope International 6th grade student

Happy Holidays Friends of Hope,

Late fall is settling in. The days are darker and shorter and many of us are looking around for pockets of light. A patch of unexpected, filtered sun, a cup of something warm, a kind word from a friend...sometimes these are the things that get us through.

I wanted to remind you all when this work began nearly 18 years ago, it was during Liberia’s darkest season. In the fresh aftermath of civil war, a community school opened, and hope made an appearance. The teachers showed up with no guarantee of a salary, the students showed up with their hopes and those of their parents in their hearts. Your presence and partnership showed up too, believing education mattered and you wanted that for ALL children, not just for those next door. Hope, carried by all of us, desiring something more beautiful, combined together and shone. The shining seemed subtle at first, and then over the years, the brightness became impossible to miss, so bright some would say you needed shades.

Over the holiday season, we will introduce you to Morris, a 9th grade student at Hope International who is shining so bright.

This Holiday Season Hope Shines Bright.

It shines in the 77 Liberian educators and staff that serve the nearly 1,500 students each and every day. It shines in the vocational programs that are equipping hundreds of students and community members to earn an income. It shines in the school buildings that love has built over time, creating an environment of support and dignity. It shines in you, our Hope community. You who didn’t have to share your money or heart with those you have never met, but you did. It is true that together we shine the brightest.

Our continued shining relies on this season of giving to meet the school needs of $25,000. Are you able to share a holiday gift as we all continue in this sharing of Hope together?

We are deeply grateful for your continuous partnership which has allowed Hope to shine in ways no one thought possible. Together with our Liberian community, we will celebrate and shine together in the ways that only those who have done something “impossible” together can.

Shining Together,
