Our Projects
THE TYPES OF PROJECTS WE SUPPORT (AND HOW WE SUPPORT THEM)
The Hope Project is unique in that it originated from, and is based upon, a relational partnership. We work with community leaders and organizers to determine the community's most pressing needs and the unique challenges they face. Upon identifying these needs (listed below), we created a project plan and budget that ensures your donation is used in the most effective and efficient way possible.
In order to better understand our projects, it helps to understand the current situation of many people living in post-war Liberia:
The unemployment rate in Liberia is approximately 85%. The average family income is can range from $25-60 per month, and a bag of rice (which can feed a family of four for up to a month) costs $36. There are no free schools in Liberia: even state-sponsored schools require that students pay tuition, which can range from $85-200 per year, per child. As a result, most children don't have the opportunity to receive an education, continuing the cycle of unemployment and poverty that is crippling the country.
Liberia is situated in the equatorial coast of West Africa where malaria and yellow fever are rampant. Immunizations here are extremely rare, and many people die of diseases that most people in the West don't even think about.
Education
Schools in Liberia require an annual tuition (even government-sponsored public school), ranging anywhere from $100-200 per child, per year. Because of this, most families are unable to provide their children even a basic education. It is currently estimated that less than half of all children in Liberia, ages 6-18, attend school.
A future of hope and sustainability begins through education. One of The Hope Project's primary intitatives was the building and funding of the Hope International School in Clapustown, Liberia. Through your donations, we pay the monthly salaries of the teachers and administrators, which offset the school's operating costs and allows tuition-free education.

Medical Care
Obtaining an education or providing for your family can be difficult, if not impossible, if you are not healthy enough to study or work. We understand how crucial a person's basic health is to their livelihood and chance at hope, so we provide schools and communities access to proper medical care and medicine, which are dispensed by a trained medical professional.
Your donations directly fund the salary of a trained medical professional to provide care for the students of Hope International School, as well as the people of Clapustown. They also provide living quarters and seperate space that serves as a small clinic, as well as adequately stocked medical supplies and medicine.
Water
Even if a person has access to medicine and basic health care, that health cannot be maintained if their only source of water is contaminated. We work with each community and their unique situation to determine the best possible way to provide clean, safe drinking water.
