About Us

Who We Are

The Hope Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is partnering with community leaders in Liberia to help provide opportunities for a people and country that has been ravaged by decades of civil war and brutality.

What We're Doing

We're providing people an opportunity to pursue a future of hope by offering tuition-free education and basic medical care through the Hope International School in Gardnersville, Liberia...with your help!

The country of Liberia has an 85% unemployment rate, and most of the 800 students who attend the school would not have a chance at an education--public schools are severly overcrowded and difficult to attend for children outside the capital, and private schools charge an annual tuition of $100-270 USD.  This is an impossible sum of money for families that only make $40 USD/month.  We don't believe this should prevent someone from receiving an education and staying healthy.

In order to provide this opportunity to the children and families of Gardnersville, we offset the costs of the school (teachers' salaries, nurse and medical supplies, clean drinking water, etc.) by finding donors who are willing to support these various projects and allow an ongoing opportunity for people who otherwise wouldn't have one.

How We Help

We tell stories.  The story of a country ravaged by civil war, of the collapse of infrastructure, of people living day by day without being connected to an electrical grid or running water.  We tell stories of people who are incredibly hopeful, optimistic, and steadfast despite what they've been through in recent decades.  These stories inspire others to invest their resources into providing Liberians a helping hand as they attempt to rebuild their lives and communities and work toward something better...toward a future of hope, dignity, and sustainability.

When people get involved and act, we're able to connect them directly to our projects.  We show where the money is spent.  We show the outcome.  And when it doesn't work out as expected, we show that, too.

With monies rasied, our partners in Liberia (teachers, administrators, and a school nurse) can do the work of educating and caring for the next generation of Liberians, helping ensure long-term success and change.

We work closely with our partners in Gardnersville who identify, implement, and report on and follow up with us on every single project.  This is how we share the whole story with you and hopefully inspired confidence in the work that is being accomplished and the impact it is having.

How We Spend

As an organization we have very few administrative or overhead expenses--minimal expenses take the form of transfer charges (when we wire money to Liberia) or the postage on occasional mailings and newsletters.  Most of our work in advancing this effort happens through word-of-mouth or online social networking.  Because of this, nearly every dollar donated by the public to a specific project goes directly to the beneficiary of that project.  If you choose to sponsor a teacher each month, every dollar you donate will go directly to that teacher, ensuring their livelihood and impact on their students.  If you choose to donate to our medical supplies program, every dollar you donate will be used to keep the shelves of the nurse's office stocked with much-needed vaccines and medicines.
