What Others Have Done

People have done some pretty amazing things to help turn passion into possibility for the people of Gardnersville.  Below are a few examples.

Generous Above-Ground Reservoir Construction

Due to issues of groundwater contamination, a standard groundwater well was not a possibility for Hope International School. Instead, through the generosity of Sanford Irrigation, Inc. in Sequim, WA, we were able to construct this above-ground reservoir. The reservoir is filled twice a month with safe, treated drinking water thanks to an ongoing monthly donation of the Clark family.

Safe, clean drinking water is vital to the health and survival of all life on earth. Contaminated water can cause illnesses and spread deadly diseases. Ensuring a reliable source of water is one of the greatest gifts that can be provided to anyone.

New Functional & Sanitary Bathrooms

A special thanks to the Stearn family who provided a generous gift that enabled us to build functional and sanitary bathrooms for the 800+ children and teachers.

Good bathroom facilities improve the quality of life of the students and staff at the school. Something that many of us take for granted like the ability to use the bathroom whenever we want, in privacy, provides a great value to the people there.

Tully's Coffee One-Day Drive

Tully's barista Erin Nash wanted to help the students and teachers of Hope International School, so she decided to get creative and raise some funds.  She displayed posters at her store that told about The Hope Project and asked customers if they would consider donating the cost of their drink toward Hope International School on a specific day the following week.

When the day came, customers came prepared...many donating more than their drink cost-equivalent, and Erin raised nearly $600 in a single shift!

Hope Project Halloween Benefit Concert

Halloween benefit concert for The Hope Project. In October 2009, high school senior Lauren decided to organize a fundraiser for her senior project, the goal of which was to raise enough money to pay the salary for a nurse at Hope International school for an entire year.

Lauren baked snacks herself and found a local vendor who donated drinks. A vacation lodge offered their barn to serve as the venue, and two area bands (Poor Folks, Live Well and Chumwater) donated their time to the cause and played for an enthusiastic audience.

By the end of the night, the full $1,200 needed to pay a nurse full time for an
entire year was raised.  Great job, Lauren!

Campus Fence Donation

Once Hope International School was up and running, it was realized that a fence and single entrance were needed to secure the campus.  First, a fence would provide security for the campus and facilities after school hours and prevent vandalism and burglery of the school and its resources.  Second, it would also help contain students during breaks between classes and prevent them from wandering off during the school day.

In August 2009, Frank and Lynn Riskey of Boise, ID, provided a generous donation to fund the construction of the fence and main gate.  Installation was completed in October.

Vacation Bible School Fundraiser

In June 2008, the renovation of buildings for Hope International School were almost complete.  However, the funding required to finish the construction had fallen short.  The Vacation Bible School of Plain Community Church in Plain, WA, decided to take up the challenge of raising the necessary funds to complete the building.  At $1 per concrete block, approximately 1,800 blocks were needed to finish the walls.  Throughout the week children brought in spare change and dollar bills.  By the end of the week, the entire amount needed to finish construction of the school buildings was raised!

And of course we want to thank all of you who have given to make this dream come true!
